Inhabit Folly - A Concrete Dream

Sicily

A historical painting depicting the creation of Adam, with numerous figures in classical attire surrounded by unfinished construction pillars, representing the biblical scene on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Unfinished public buildings in Italy have been called many things and they are generally looked at with scorn by the public eye and every so often demolished.
However, it is undeniable that over the years they have acquired a new value, also becoming the focus of many studies.
Inhabit Folly offers a new narrative to the unfinished public structures in Sicily by rethinking a new way to connect them and to bring people in. The paradox of the unfinished buildings is that these structures were designed for public, but they never saw human trace in it.
The new interventions are designed for the local community, to be used on a daily basis as a gathering space and as a place that encourages political and social discussion.
The barrenness and the “non- complete” state of the structures offer infinite design possibilities and supplementary programme.
The structures are treated like modern ruins, as such their main structure is maintained intact and the additions are minimal.
